Fact Check: Did Trump Say Xi Deserved McDonald’s—Not a State Dinner?

I compare Donald Trump’s statements that Xi Jinping should get a McDonald’s hamburger and “go home” if China would not make a fair deal with the White House state dinner for Xi this week. The contrast raises a direct question: has Trump’s view of Xi—and the leverage he believes the United States has over China—changed?

I also unpack Xi’s renewed invocation of the Thucydides trap, his call for “healthy competition without confrontation,” and the significance of military crisis communication between Washington and Beijing. The unresolved stakes include Taiwan, Xi’s demand that the United States oppose Taiwanese independence, trade and alleged economic misconduct, and China’s support for Russia. I correct the record on a recycled “partners, not rivals” video and explain why a TASS report on possible U.S.-Russia-China arms-control talks needs independent verification.
