What would it take for Puerto Ricans to come together and say, “Enough”?

In this episode of Puerto Rico Open Your Eyes, we reflect on political division, party loyalty, and the everyday hardships affecting families across the island. From unreliable water and electricity to housing costs, school closures, healthcare access, and migration, we ask whether loyalty to a political party sometimes becomes stronger than our willingness to demand accountability.

The passionate reactions to an offensive question about Puerto Ricans provide one example of people speaking up to defend their dignity. Could some of that same energy help sustain cooperation around Puerto Rico’s needs? And what can the mobilization of 2019 teach us about coming together across political differences?

We also consider our responsibilities toward the environment, local agriculture, elderly neighbors, and people experiencing abuse.
