Stephen is joined by Aaron Fochman of Underground Publishing, author of Serpent on the Way, for a deep dive into the historical and spiritual origins of the Essenes, the Book of Enoch, Gnosticism, mystery religions, and Second Temple Judaism. The conversation examines the claim that many ideas presented today as ancient hidden knowledge may actually trace back to competing religious, philosophical, and occult traditions.Topics discussed include:- The Book of Enoch and its modern popularity
- Who the Essenes really were
- The Dead Sea Scrolls
- Essene solar-calendar practices
- The Watchers, fallen angels, and Nephilim
- Archons, aliens, and changing terminology for spiritual beings
- Pythagoras and ancient mystery-school initiation
- Hinduism, Buddhism, reincarnation, and the Monad
- The idea that the physical body is a prison
- Helena Blavatsky and using Enoch to initiate Christians into “the Mysteries”
- Gnosticism and secret knowledge
- Origen, Neoplatonism, and early church history
- Premillennialism vs. amillennialism
- Pharisees, Sadducees, and Essenes
- Ancient scribal communities and supposedly “secret” books
- Alexandria and Second Temple literature
- The Baal Epic and Divine Council discussions
- Elizabeth Clare Prophet and modern New Age interpretations of Enoch
- The Ethiopian biblical tradition
- Whether the New Testament actually “quotes” the Book of Enoch
- Jude, Enoch, and Second Temple literature
- New Age ideas concerning reincarnation and disembodied spirits
- Flood traditions and ancient cosmology
- Nephilim, giants, Neanderthals, Sasquatch, and ancient giant traditions
- Freemasonry and later occult interpretations of ancient history
- Tower of Babel chronology
- King Og, Rephaim, Anakim, and other giant traditions
- Whether the early church considered 1 Enoch inspired Scripture
- The Book of Giants
- “Satan’s Little Season” theology
- Golden-age/Messiah expectations across different religions
- AI, aliens, the Image of the Beast, and technological deception
- Transcendence and The Fifth Wave as modern examples of these themes
- The proposed connection between the modern Enoch/Nephilim revival and the “Externalization of the Hierarchy”
The central warning throughout the episode is the danger of allowing extra-biblical writings, occult interpretations, or supposed hidden knowledge to replace the biblical Gospel and become the lens through which Scripture is interpreted.CHAPTERS0:00 – Introduction: Aaron Fochman & Serpent on the Way
