Severin Films and Hangtime International Pictures are officially partnering to develop an English-language remake of Lucio Fulci's 1981 cult horror classic, The Beyond. This upcoming project marks a major production expansion for Severin, a company traditionally celebrated for its physical media restoration work and niche documentaries. The initial movie follows a woman who inherits a Louisiana property built directly over a gateway to hell, introducing terrifying supernatural occurrences. Because the original film belongs to a loosely connected "Gates of Hell" trilogy, studio executives are already eyeing potential sequel opportunities within the shared universe. However, industry analysts note that recreating the specific charm of vintage Italian gore films in modern English carries substantial commercial risks, especially given the historical underperformance of similar nostalgic reboots.
