Turning Tragedy Into Fire Safety: The Hopkins Family’s Mission to Save Lives

Fire safety starts long before an emergency happens.

On this episode of Along the Rock, host Kierstyn Long is joined by Becca Mayberry of Hopkins Family Fire Safety, Rock Falls Fire Chief Kyle Sommers, and Sterling Fire Chief David Northcutt to discuss fire prevention, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, escape plans, candle safety, extension cords, and other ways families can prepare for an emergency.

Becca also shares the story behind Hopkins Family Fire Safety and how a devastating house fire inspired her to create an organization focused on raising awareness and helping provide important safety resources to the community.

The conversation also highlights ways residents can support local fire safety efforts, including donating smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, power strips, emergency care kit supplies, and other safety items.

Plus, learn about upcoming opportunities to connect with Hopkins Family Fire Safety and local firefighters, including Taco Throwdown on September 25 and the Sterling Fire Department's A Block Party on October 4.
