In this episode of Along the Rock, host Nathan Stahr sits down with local historian Tom Wadsworth to explore one of the most heartbreaking stories in Sauk Valley history.
In August 1957, sisters Nancy, Teresa, and Ruthie Guernsey disappeared near the cement plant north of Dixon, Illinois. What followed was one of the largest volunteer search efforts the region had ever seen, drawing hundreds of community members, law enforcement agencies, and national media attention. The tragic discovery that ended the search left a lasting impact on the Guernsey family, the City of Dixon, and everyone who followed the story.
Tom shares the history behind the tragedy, the remarkable community response, and the resilience of a family that endured unimaginable loss. He also discusses his ongoing work preserving local history through presentations across northwestern Illinois.
