How to be a Faliure - Part 5: Be In Love With Yourself

One of the surest paths to failure and frustration is self-love elevated to the center of life, a condition in which a man makes himself his own god and demands that the whole world revolve around his desires. The person in love with himself expects universal devotion, tolerates no criticism, trusts no one, and yet is constantly suspicious and insecure, because self-worship can never give peace. Rooted in the ancient temptation to be “as God,” this self-centered love produces tyranny over others, inner turmoil, and inevitable disappointment, for neither the self nor the world can bear the weight of ultimate devotion. True security and victorious living are found only when love is rightly ordered when God, not the self, becomes the center of affection. Loving the Lord first frees us from slavery to ourselves and enables us to love others truly and patiently, because God’s undeserved love in Christ reshapes our hearts. Any love that begins and ends with the self leads to frustration, but love anchored in God brings peace, endurance, and fullness of life.
