Freedom Under God’s

In “Freedom Under God’s Law,” Rushdoony insists that true freedom is not political autonomy but a religious reality grounded in redemption through Jesus Christ, who alone frees men from the deepest slavery the bondage of sin making God’s law “the perfect law of liberty.” Every legal system reflects the god it serves, and laws grounded in humanism, Marxism, racism, or therapeutic relativism inevitably become instruments of tyranny rather than justice. As modern society and even much of the church reject God as Lawgiver, replacing Biblical restitution with class guilt, racial blame, or psychological excuses, crime multiplies and freedom erodes. Rushdoony argues that once God’s law is abandoned, judgment follows, because no other source can rightly define good and evil. To reject God’s law is to reject God Himself and enthrone a false “angel of light” in His place. The crisis of freedom, therefore, is not political but theological, and recovery is possible only through a return to Christ’s lordship and His revealed law.
