Legislate Morality?

The claim “you can’t legislate morality” is itself a lie because all law legislates morality. Laws against murder, theft, fraud, or even reckless driving are moral judgments about right and wrong. Every legal system enforces a moral code, and every moral code reflects a religion.

The real issue is not whether morality will be legislated, but whose morality. As Christian foundations are rejected, they are replaced with a humanistic morality enforced by law. Change the religion behind the law, and the law will change along with who is judged right or wrong.

Morality will always be legislated. The only question is which one and at whose cost.
