Between 1980 and 1982, Paul Michael Stephani committed a series of brutal assaults and murders against women in the Twin Cities area. Following these violent acts, the killer would anonymously contact authorities in a distressed, high-pitched tone to confess, express profound regret, and plead for help. Despite these emotional tips, he consistently denied involvement when initially arrested for the crimes he was linked to through an escaping victim and subsequent police surveillance. Years later, facing a terminal cancer diagnosis, Stephani finally admitted to his full slate of offenses, revealing additional previously unconnected attacks before passing away in prison.
