In 2006, the city of Phoenix experienced an unprecedented wave of terror as investigators realized multiple independent killers were operating simultaneously. The Baseline Killer, later identified as Mark Goudeau, targeted women in a series of brutal sexual assaults and execution-style murders while disguising his appearance. Concurrently, a pair of accomplices known as the Serial Shooters, Dale Hausner and Samuel Dieteman, engaged in random drive-by shootings fueled by a desire for media attention and a perceived rivalry. Authorities eventually dismantled the Serial Shooters using wiretaps and physical evidence left in a dumpster after realizing their crimes escalated alongside media coverage of the Baseline Killer. Ultimately, DNA evidence and a crucial tip linked Goudeau to his numerous crimes, leading to his arrest and subsequent death sentences.
