In 2014, the kidnapping and murder of Menachem Stark, a prominent Hasidic businessman, shocked New York City during a major blizzard. While initial theories suggested antisemitic motives, mob debts, or angry tenants, investigators ultimately discovered a tracking device on Stark’s car that led to a group of construction workers. The mastermind, Erskine Felix, orchestrated the abduction to extort money he believed was owed to him, but the struggle turned fatal when Stark died of asphyxiation. The perpetrators attempted to hide the crime by burning the body in a Long Island dumpster. Through cell phone forensics and a confession from the youngest accomplice, the police eventually secured convictions for the Felix family members and their associates. This tragic case highlights how a planned robbery spiraled into a high-profile homicide that devastated a tight-knit religious community.
