In November 1993, Wanda Musk, a 19-year-old college student working a night shift at a Michigan gas station, was abducted and tragically beaten to death with a steel baton. Her body was discovered in a nearby field shortly after she vanished, but the investigation stalled for nearly twenty years due to a lack of solid leads. The cold case was eventually resolved in 2012 when a state DNA mandate linked biological evidence from the crime scene to Matthew Lorne Alder, an inmate already serving a life sentence for a separate 1994 murder. Following the DNA match, Alder confessed to the brutal crime and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2013. Consequently, he received an additional prison sentence of 20 to 30 years, which he continues to serve alongside his life term at a Michigan correctional facility.
