The episode detail two distinct criminal investigations where forensic science proved crucial in solving complex murder and shooting cases. The first narrative examines the Los Angeles Police Department's investigation into the homicide of Luda Petenko, an immigrant involved in an illegal trafficking and high-end prostitution ring, which ultimately led to the conviction of her business partner and killer, Alexander Gabay, through ballistics, video analysis, and shoe impression evidence. The second narrative chronicles a terrifying series of shootings in East Point, Georgia, orchestrated by William Charles Lewis, who targeted his estranged wife and her probation office colleague while trying to conceal his crimes through random attacks and taunting notes. Investigators ultimately unmasked Lewis as the serial shooter by matching DNA and lip prints left on the threatening letters, leading to his guilty plea and life sentence.
