In 1990, the wealthy Ava Shoen was tragically murdered in her Telluride, Colorado, home while her young children slept upstairs. Despite a confusing initial crime scene, ballistic analysis revealed the fatal bullet was fired from a rare Lorcin .25 caliber handgun with a distinct manufacturing flaw. The investigation stalled for years until a televised segment on Unsolved Mysteries prompted a tip linking ex-con Frank Marquee to the crime. Authorities subsequently tracked down the murder weapon's origin and recovered discarded garments along a New Mexico highway. Ultimately, forensic analysis matched a single strand of hair found on the recovered clothing to the victim, prompting Marquee to confess and plead guilty to manslaughter.
