September 19: ST. EMILY DE RODAT: A School in One Small Room

St. Emily de Rodat turned her own small bedroom into a classroom after overhearing poor mothers worry about their daughters.

Unsure of her calling for years, Emily overheard a group of poor women in 1815 worrying that their daughters had no one to teach them the faith — and opened her own room as a school within days. Despite mockery, serious illness, and years of spiritual dryness, the single classroom grew into thirty-eight schools serving thousands of children.

"She trusted that staying faithful mattered more than feeling close to God every moment."
