A CNBC segment reported that an analyst sees AI safety concerns as a limited near term earnings risk for major technology vendors. The European Union’s AI Act, adopted in 2024, phases in through 2025 and 2026 with fines up to 35 million euros or up to 7 percent of worldwide turnover. In the United States, the White House issued an October 30, 2023 executive order on AI safety, and NIST launched the AI Safety Institute in 2024. Corporate earnings commentary through 2024 from Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta, Amazon, and Nvidia emphasized AI demand rather than safety costs. Ongoing legal actions include The New York Times v. OpenAI and Microsoft and Getty Images v. Stability AI, while the FTC inquiry into OpenAI continues. Enterprise buyers are demanding audits, model documentation, and indemnities, which can lengthen sales cycles but favor vendors with mature controls.
