Anthropic, founded by Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei in 2021, is expanding Claude through Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud's Vertex AI while managing cloud costs and compliance demands. Amazon announced an investment of up to $4 billion in 2023. Anthropic released the Claude 3 family in March 2024 and Claude 3.5 Sonnet in June 2024, adding longer context and multimodal features that raise compute requirements. Regulators are advancing obligations for foundation models through efforts such as the EU AI Act. In October 2023, music publishers represented by the National Music Publishers Association sued Anthropic over alleged unauthorized lyrics reproduction. Enterprise buyers compare Claude with offerings from OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google, and they seek indemnities, controls, and predictable pricing as deployments move to production.
