Story Transcript:

En: Eero glanced hurriedly in front of him as he stepped into the field hospital.

Fi: Täällä, telttojen keskellä, oli syksyisiä vaahteranlehtiä pitkin maata, muistuttaen häntä kodin lämpimästä villapaitakokoelmasta.
En: Here, amidst the tents, autumn maple leaves covered the ground, reminding him of his warm sweater collection at home.

En: But warmth wasn't on his mind, rather a specific pair of socks.

En: Those socks had brought him luck in many situations—during exams, soccer matches, and even when he met his dream girl.

En: But now, they had been left in the wrong place, in the hospital laundry.

Fi: Eero katsahti ympärilleen etsien sisäänkäyntiä.
En: Eero looked around, searching for an entrance.

Fi: Oven vieressä seisoi Liisa, sairaalan tarkkasilmäinen ja tarmokas hallintopäällikkö.
En: Next to the door stood Liisa, the sharp-eyed and energetic administrative manager of the hospital.

Fi: Hän tiesi kaiken ja tunsi jokaisen.
En: She knew everything and everyone.

En: He was wearing nurse clothes borrowed from his friend Matti.

Fi: Oli vain päästävä sisään ilman kysymyksiä.
En: He just needed to get inside without any questions.

Fi: "Hei!
En: "Hi!

Fi: Päivää," Eero tervehti vakuuttavasti Liisaa.
En: Good day," Eero greeted Liisa convincingly.

Fi: Liisa kurtisti kulmiaan.
En: Liisa frowned.

Fi: "Kuka sinä olet?
En: "Who are you?

Fi: En muista nähneeni sinua täällä ennen."
En: I don't remember seeing you here before."

Fi: Eero oli valmistautunut.
En: Eero was prepared.

En: "Oh, I am new here," he said, smiling as genuinely as possible.

Fi: "Matilta sain tietää, että täällä tarvitaan lisäkäsiä."
En: "Matti told me that more hands are needed here."

Fi: Liisa katsoi häntä hetken, mutta sitten nyökkäsi.
En: Liisa looked at him for a moment, but then nodded.

Fi: "Kädet ovat aina tervetulleita."
En: "Hands are always welcome."

Fi: Eero huuhahti helpotuksesta ja suunnisti pesulan suuntaan.
En: Eero sighed with relief and headed towards the laundry.

Fi: Hänen täytyi löytää ne sukat.
En: He had to find those socks.

En: The laundry was full of busy people, but there they were, at the bottom of a laundry cart, peeking out from under other laundry.

En: Eero leapt toward them, and just as he reached for the socks, he heard Liisa's voice behind him.

Fi: "Noh, mikä kiire?"
En: "Well, what's the rush?"

Fi: Liisa kysyi, käsivarret tiukasti ristissä.
En: Liisa asked, arms tightly crossed.

Fi: Eeron sydän hakkasi.
En: Eero's heart was racing.

En: "Ah, you know," he began, "These socks... are quite special.

Fi: Meillä on nimittäin teatteriesitys, jossa tarvitaan juuri tällaiset onnenkappaleet."
En: We have a theater performance where just such lucky pieces are needed."

Fi: Liisa hymyili vinosti.
En: Liisa smiled crookedly.

Fi: "Teatteriesitys, vai?
En: "A theater performance, eh?

Fi: No, toivottavasti niistä onnea on."
En: Well, hopefully they bring luck."

Fi: Eero nyökkäsi kiitollisena ja nappasi sukat mukaansa.
En: Eero nodded gratefully and grabbed the socks with him.

En: He had learned that sometimes a little imagination and cleverness go a long way.

En: As he left the hospital, he nodded thankfully at Liisa, who smiled back, knowing full well that Eero wasn't exactly what he appeared to be.

En: But at the same time, she couldn't help but admire Eero's determination.

Fi: Ulkona, syksyn tuuli puhalsi lehtiä ilmaan, ja Eero veti sukat ylleen.
En: Outside, the autumn wind blew leaves into the air, and Eero slipped on the socks.

Fi: Hänellä oli edessään tärkeä haastattelu.
En: He had an important interview ahead.

Fi: Ja nyt, hänen onnensukkansa olivat mukana.
En: And now, his lucky socks were with him.
