Lightning Seek Homestand Sweep, Dominic James Return Watch & Power Play Changes? | Daily Strike - October 8, 2026

The Tampa Bay Lightning look to complete a perfect three-game homestand tonight as they host the Minnesota Wild at Benchmark International Arena. On today's Daily Strike, Steve Versnick previews the matchup and breaks down the latest developments from practice as the Bolts aim for their third straight victory.

One of the biggest storylines heading into tonight's game is Tampa Bay's power play. The Lightning are still searching for their first power-play goal of the season, leading Head Coach Jon Cooper to make adjustments during practice, including adding Charle-Édouard D'Astous alongside John Carlson on the top unit. Hear from both Cooper and D'Astous on the changes and the opportunity ahead.

The Bolts could also get a boost from the return of Dominic James, who has missed Training Camp and the first three games of the season with a broken hand. James discusses his recovery and mindset as he looks to make his season debut.

Meanwhile, John Carlson continues to make an immediate impact in Tampa Bay. His assist Monday against Philadelphia marked the 500th even-strength point of his NHL career, the fourth-most among active defensemen and second-most all-time among U.S.-born defensemen. Victor Hedman ranks third among active defensemen with 506 even-strength points.
