Jeffrey Viel Scores Twice, But Lightning Fall 3-2 in OT | Daily Strike - September 23, 2026

The Tampa Bay Lightning suffered their first loss of the preseason, falling 3-2 in overtime to the Nashville Predators, but there were plenty of positives to take away from the trip to Music City. On today's Daily Strike, Steve Versnick recaps all the action, including a breakout performance from Jeffrey Viel, who scored both Lightning goals in an impressive showing.

Viel's line with Pontus Holmberg and Zemgus Girgensons generated offense throughout the night as Tampa Bay built a 2-0 lead before Nashville rallied late in regulation. Hear from Jeffrey Viel after his two-goal performance and from Jon Cooper on what the team can learn from letting the game slip away.

We also hear from Conor Geekie as he discusses the lessons the young roster can take from the overtime defeat, while goaltender Dennis Hildeby made his preseason debut and turned aside 23 shots.
