Story Transcript:

En: Dmytro stood on the walls of ancient Kyiv, gazing into the horizon.

En: Over the fields where the wheat had already been harvested, the silence of late summer hung.

En: Everything quieted for just a moment, the calm before the storm stretched before the impending tempest.

En: Far on the horizon, dark clouds swirled—the pechenihy were approaching, and the time to prepare for battle was relentlessly slipping away.

En: The creak of the wooden gates pulled Dmytro from his thoughts.

En: It was Taras, the village blacksmith.

En: His hands were as strong as iron, and his voice was deep and confident.

En: "It's a good day for work, isn't it?" he said, despite the anxiety in the air.

En: "Yes, but we must be ready," Dmytro replied, trying to conceal his uncertainty.

En: Meanwhile, on the edge of the village, Olena, the well-known herbalist, was gathering herbs during the harvest festival.

En: Nettles were laid on the edge of the meadow to ward off evil.

En: "Do you remember that wisdom is more important than the sword?" Olena looked at Dmytro with a sly smile.

En: "Don't let fear cloud your mind."

En: The harvest festival was always a joyous time.

En: Village families gathered in the center of the village, exchanging woven wreaths and songs.

En: But this year, there was anxiety in people's eyes.

En: The pechenihy could attack at any moment.

En: Dmytro pondered whether to act bravely and lead the defense or follow Taras's example and prepare a secret retreat plan.

En: He decided on the first option.

En: His heart beat faster as he mounted the podium and addressed the villagers.

En: "We are ready on all fronts!" shouted Dmytro, clearly and confidently.

En: "We will try to keep the village safe, but if necessary, we will fight for its walls!"

Uk: Настала ніч.
En: Night fell.

En: The hum of the pechenihy's war drums grew nearer.

En: Their campfires were already visible on the hill.

En: The harvest festival suddenly turned into preparations for defense.

En: And there, under the crystal-clear sky, the frenzy of battle unfolded.

En: Dmytro led bravely and decisively.

En: His strategy impressed everyone.

En: He directed archers to the ridge of the hill, delaying the enemy—setting traps with logs and pikes gathered by Taras to hinder the advance.

En: The pechenihy could not break through this sophisticated defense.

En: When the enemy retreated, the village sighed with relief.

En: Dmytro stood, exhausted but with pride in his eyes.

En: Taras placed his hand on his shoulder.

En: "You did it, boy," he said, smiling broadly.

En: Olena approached, offering Dmytro a chamomile infusion.

En: "It won't hurt after the battle."<br
