Trigger Warning: In this episode of the SOVEREIGN Magazine® Podcast, host Nicole George welcomes Ashlee Tegen to discuss the September New Moon theme of Surrendering to the Unknown through Ashlee’s article, “When You Don’t Know What’s Next, Write.”
Ashlee reframes journaling as a way to hear what you think, not just record your day, and shares her favorite gratitude practice using three columns (past, present, future) to honor what shaped you, find stability in the moment, and “future manifest.”
She explains how journaling became a judgment-free safe space during an eating disorder, marital struggles, and shame after an affair, and why she prefers pen and paper. Ashlee outlines added steps: rating stress before/after, brain dumping, then labeling entries as urgent, unnecessary, or uplifting. She also describes “unsent letters” for release, followed by burning them—often with palo santo under a new or full moon.
