We were pleased to welcome Progressive Magazine Publisher Norman Stockwell and author and journalist John Dinges to the studio and on the phone for our first Fall fundraising show. Norm has been associated with World View for many years and has been a valued mentor to many of us interested in Central and South American political history. To bring John Dinges, legendary journalist and author who has spent much of his career either in the region or writing about it to the WORT airwaves was a special treat for Sunday evening listeners.
John Dinges has written about the September 1976 murder of Orlando Letelier and Ronni Moffitt on Embassy Row in Washington, D.C. But before that he was a journalist writing the living history of revolutionary Chile in the 70s. Eventually he authored the story of the aftermath of the Pinochet takeover, the right turn taken by many Latin America leaders of the day and what happened to both North and South Americans caught on what became “the wrong side.”
His latest book is Chile in Their Hearts, his investigation of the deaths of two adventurous young Americans whom he knew and were his contemporaries in Chile.
We are grateful to Norman and John for sharing their stories and experiences with us in this quick conversation. We’ve included a few more presentations here and links to John’s books.
