Two state statutes restricting access to abortion care in Wisconsin are being tested in a lawsuit Planned Parenthood filed last week. Venturing into new legal territory for the state, they’ve asked the courts to affirm that reproductive freedom is protected under the Wisconsin Constitution.

Nicole Safar is the chief of staff at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. She told our News Producer Faye Parks that the lawsuit is a logical next step, after the state Supreme Court struck down Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban last summer. And solidifying state level protections is crucial, she said, as conservatives in Washington D.C. continue their campaign to strip away reproductive freedom and cut healthcare funding.
