October 3rd, 1935, Italian troops invaded Ethiopia in an undeclared war, in what became known as the Second Italo-Ethiopian war. The war, preceded by failed efforts to contain Italian aggression at the League of Nations, was marked by numerous war crimes by Italian forces, including the aerial use of mustard gas, in violation of the Geneva Protocol. The war officially ending May of 1936, but was followed by internal resistance and international efforts by emperor in exile Haile Selassie and others, until Ethiopian liberation in 1942. Harry Richardson has the story.
