Students headed back to school this month, but there is a big difference between schooling and learning. Her Turn reporter Arlene Zaucha has an in-depth discussion with University of Wisconsin Madison Professor Jessica Lee Stovall who is working to make sure school is helping move students forward, not holding them back, especially African American students. Stovall is developing an exciting new project - the SoulFolk Saturday Freedom School. Freedom schools were instrumental during the civil rights era and Stovall is building on that legacy. It all comes from Stovall’s dedication to the idea of a liberatory education - something that started for her at a young age. And she is still full of inspirations and aspirations.
