眾所皆知亞馬遜雨林是世界上最大的雨林，範圍橫跨八個國家。在1990年至2000年短短10年間，亞馬遜雨林遭到破壞砍伐的面積由4150萬公頃上升至5870萬公頃，其失去面積相當於葡萄牙的兩倍面積。不單是生物多樣性會受到影響，環境學家更是擔心森林遭破壞後可能會加速全球暖化。
好消息是在2022與2023年間，森林砍伐的比例在哥倫比亞下降36%，歸功於總統Gustavo Petro保證會減少森林砍伐以及當地原住民的努力才有今天的結果。哥倫比亞政府也做出更多措施來確保森林的安全，更是居中協調各方避免紛爭與不愉快。
