Black Dirt And Borrowed Time

BLACK DIRT & BORROWED TIME (reworking of original instrumental track by Silvio Vinci)

[Verse 1]
Daddy left a tractor
And a note he couldn’t pay.
I can get that motor talking,
Can’t make the bank go away.

[Chorus]
Roll on, muddy water,
Go on, have your say.
You can take another acre,
But you won’t take me away.

[Verse 2]
Her dress behind the kitchen door
Still smells of last July.
She said she’d leave before the rain—
This time she didn’t lie.

[Instrumental]

[Bridge]
Sunday finds me on the back steps,
With a six-string on my knee.
If the Lord wants my attention,
He can come sit next to me.

[Chorus]
Roll on, muddy water,
Go on, have your say.
You can take another acre,
But you won’t take me away.

[Outro — half-spoken]
Black dirt on my fingers…
And a little borrowed time.
