CAVE WATER DROPS

I walked where the daylight
Forgot how to stay,
Down through the silence,
Far from the day.

The walls held their shadows,
The cold knew my name,
And somewhere in darkness
A little drop came.

Cave water drops,
One by one,
Counting the years
Where there is no sun.

Cave water drops,
Soft and slow,
Tell me the things
Only old stones know.

I dreamed of a river
That flowed through the air,
Carrying voices
Of people not there.

I reached for the water,
It slipped through my hand,
And woke in a place
I could not understand.

Cave water drops,
One by one,
Counting the years
Where there is no sun.

Cave water drops,
Fall through my dream,
Nothing is ever
Quite what it seems.

Drop after drop…
Night after night…

Deep in the stone
Something remembers
The light.
