Story Transcript:

Fr: Élodie regardait par la fenêtre de son petit appartement à Montmartre.
En: Élodie was looking out the window of her small apartment in Montmartre.

Fr: Le soleil baignait les rues pavées, où les artistes installaient leurs chevalets, et les colorés cafés bourdonnaient de monde.
En: The sun bathed the cobblestone streets, where artists set up their easels, and the colorful cafes buzzed with people.

Fr: En haut de la colline, la silhouette blanche du Sacré-Cœur brillait dans le ciel bleu.
En: At the top of the hill, the white silhouette of Sacré-Cœur shone in the blue sky.

Fr: Elle avait toujours aimé ce quartier.
En: She had always loved this neighborhood.

Fr: Il inspirait ses peintures.
En: It inspired her paintings.

Fr: Mais aujourd'hui, elle avait l'esprit ailleurs.
En: But today, her mind was elsewhere.

Fr: Thibault, son partenaire depuis des années, était à des milliers de kilomètres, au Canada.
En: Thibault, her partner for years, was thousands of kilometers away, in Canada.

Fr: Leur relation longue distance devenait de plus en plus difficile, les heures d'avance, et les appels vidéo ne suffisaient plus.

Fr: "Élodie, tu veux un café?"
En: "Élodie, do you want a coffee?"

Fr: demanda Mathis, son frère.
En: asked Mathis, her brother.

Fr: Il était assis à la table de la cuisine, semblant deviner ses pensées.
En: He was sitting at the kitchen table, seemingly guessing her thoughts.

Fr: "Ouais, merci," répondit-elle avec un sourire faible.
En: "Yeah, thanks," she replied with a weak smile.

Fr: Mathis observa sa sœur.
En: Mathis watched his sister.

Fr: Il savait combien elle tenait à Thibault, mais il voyait aussi combien ses rêves artistiques étaient importants pour elle.
En: He knew how much she cared about Thibault, but he also saw how important her artistic dreams were to her.

Fr: "Tu as reçu des nouvelles du Canada?"
En: "Have you heard any news from Canada?"

Fr: demanda-t-il, la voix douce.
En: he asked gently.

Fr: "Oui, il rentre ce week-end," dit Élodie, une étincelle d'espoir dans les yeux.
En: "Yes, he's coming back this weekend," Élodie said, a spark of hope in her eyes.

Fr: "Mais..." "Mais quoi ?"
En: "But..." "But what?"

Fr: insista Mathis.
En: insisted Mathis.

Fr: "J'ai une grande exposition prévue au même moment," soupira-t-elle.
En: "I have a big exhibition scheduled at the same time," she sighed.

Fr: "C'est ma chance de briller ici, à Montmartre."
En: "It's my chance to shine here, in Montmartre."

Fr: Mathis haussa les épaules.
En: Mathis shrugged.

Fr: "Tout est question de compromis, non?"
En: "It's all about compromise, right?"

Fr: Le week-end arriva vite.
En: The weekend arrived quickly.

Fr: Élodie accueillit Thibault à l'aéroport avec un sourire mais le cœur lourd.
En: Élodie welcomed Thibault at the airport with a smile but a heavy heart.

Fr: Ils passèrent la journée à se promener dans Paris, partageant des moments précieux.
En: They spent the day strolling through Paris, sharing precious moments.

Fr: Mais l'exposition approchait et Élodie devait se préparer.
En: But the exhibition was approaching, and Élodie had to prepare.

Fr: Le soir de l'exposition, la galerie était remplie de gens.

Fr: Élodie était nerveuse mais excitée.

En: When he approached, Élodie pulled him into a quiet corner.

Fr: "Viens," dit-elle doucement, "j'ai une surprise pour toi."
En: "Come," she said softly, "I have a surprise for you."

Fr: Ils quittèrent la galerie et retournèrent à l'appartement d'Élodie.
En: They left the gallery and returned to Élodie's apartment.

Fr: Là, elle avait installé une petite exposition privée.
En: There, she had set up a small private exhibition.

Fr: Juste pour lui.
En: Just for him.

Fr: "Je voulais que tu voies à quel point tu es important pour moi," dit Élodie.
En: "I wanted you to see how important you are to me," Élodie said.

Fr: "Je veux que tu fasses partie de ma vie ici, autant que tu fais partie de mes rêves."
En: "I want you to be part of my life here, as much as you are part of my dreams."

Fr: Thibault sourit, touché.
En: Thibault smiled, touched.

Fr: "Merci, Élodie.
En: "Thank you, Élodie.

Fr: Je vois à quel point tu tiens à ton art et à nous."
En: I see how much you care about your art and about us."
