JMU BOLTS for the AAC! Was the Sun Belt Caught OFF GUARD? | Sun Belt Podcast

JMU Dukes shake up the Sun Belt by announcing a move to the American Athletic Conference, triggering questions about the future of college sports realignment.

With JMU set to join the AAC by July 1, 2028, the Sun Belt faces an urgent crossroads—was the conference truly prepared for this high-stakes departure, and which teams are next on the radar?

Dave Schultz breaks down the financial incentives driving JMU’s decision, contrasts media rights payouts between the AAC and Sun Belt, and identifies top candidates like Western Kentucky, Liberty, and Delaware for potential expansion.

The discussion explores Commissioner Keith Gill’s response—or lack thereof—to the move, the risk of losing additional members like ODU, and the critical importance of fit versus revenue in conference identity.

Can the Sun Belt respond decisively, or is more realignment on the horizon for college football and basketball?
