Gil Carrillo helped catch Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker. But the hunt nearly cost him his family.
In this explosive true crime interview, Tom Zenner and Kato Kaelin sit down with legendary former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide detective Gil Carrillo, one of the investigators who hunted and arrested Richard Ramirez.
The Night Stalker terrorized Los Angeles and Southern California with a brutal series of murders, sexual assaults and home invasions. While the public locked its doors and feared where Ramirez might strike next, Carrillo worked around the clock to identify him, track him down and stop the killing. But the case did not stay at the office.
Gil reveals how the Night Stalker investigation consumed his life, changed his personality and pushed his marriage toward divorce. He describes apologizing to his wife decades later, the fear his family lived with and the terrifying morning she woke their children, packed their belongings and fled the house while Ramirez was still free.
Carrillo also takes Tom and Kato inside: • The evidence that connected Richard Ramirez’s crimes • Why other investigators initially doubted his theory • The Night Stalker’s kill kit and blood-covered clothing • His encounters and conversations with Ramirez • The FBI profiling mistake that nearly delayed the investigation • The survivors Gil Carrillo never forgot • Why the Night Stalker remains part of his life more than 40 years later
Known to millions from the Netflix Night Stalker documentary series, Gil Carrillo tells the deeply personal story behind one of America’s most infamous serial-killer investigations. This is not another Richard Ramirez recap.
This is the story of the detective who helped catch the Night Stalker—and the price his wife and children paid while he hunted a monster. Featuring: Gil Carrillo, Tom Zenner and Kato Kaelin.
