Lawmakers surface Coast Guard housing, quality-of-life issues

The Coast Guard is hitting its recruiting targets and making historic investments in ships, aircraft and shore-based infrastructure. That’s thanks to funding from last year’s reconciliation bill. But lawmakers are concerned that persistent challenges with maintenance, training and quality of life for service members could stunt the Coast Guard’s growth plans.
