Why Avi Lewis believes ‘democratic socialism’ will save Canada

Avi Lewis, the new leader of the federal NDP, discusses Canada’s response to Trump’s tariffs, his plan for nationwide government-run grocery stores, and how he hopes to win back working-class voters from the Conservatives. The journalist-turned-politician explains how he will harness populist anger, fill in a gaping hole on the Canadian Left, and ultimately rebuild his party from its lowest seat count in history. Lewis also addresses accusations of antisemitism and fringe identity politics beliefs within the NDP.
