Today we celebrate the week of the autumnal equinox. The assumption that pagans and the old religions worshiped a pantheon of gods and goddesses out of confusion and ignorance is an incredibly misguided belief. A study of historical literature actually seems to indicate that these ideas, like the
Black Mass, were themselves an invention of the
literalist church. The same is true for the solstices and equinoxes, which were holy days of nature, being branded evil. On this episode,
Ramsey Darling, author of "
The Satanic Self," joins to discuss this and more. Ramsey says, "The
Christian portrayal of
Satan as '
evil' reflects fear of these profound truths. Fear of nature. Fear of cycles. Fear of knowledge. Fear of power. By understanding
ancient pagan symbols in their deepest sense, you see Satan not as a figure of malevolence, but as a symbol of your deepest Self. Your connection to the cosmos. The eternal cycles that govern existence."
