Crime and Science Fiction on a Tuesday

First,  a look at this day in History.

Then, Dragnet starring Jack Webb,  originally broadcast  July 21, 1949, 77 years ago, City Hall Bombing.  Vernon Carney is threatening to blow up City Hall with a bomb if his brother isn't freed from jail by nine o'clock.  The story would be reused a year later and on the Television show.

Followed by The Big Story, originally broadcast July 21, 1948, 78 years ago, The Lottery Racket. The "big story" of Keeler McCartney of the Atlanta Constitution, who attempts to clean up a lottery racket and nearly gets killed for his efforts.

Then, Calling All Cars,  originally broadcast  July 21, 1937, 89 years ago, Alibi.  A dangerous hold-up man is wanted. He has held up a streetcar motorman.

Followed by The CBS Radio Workshop, originally broadcast July 21, 1957, 69 years ago, Green Hills of Earth starring Everett Sloan.   The beautiful Robert Heinlein science fiction story about Reisling, the blind poet of the spaceways.  Perhaps the best adaptation of the story.

Finally, Claudia, originally broadcast July 21, 1948, 78 years ago, You've Seen One Baby, You've Seen Them All.  Kathryn Bard and Paul Crabtree star.
