Tour Coach | Boring Golf is Good Golf

Dutchman's Pipe near Lexington, Kentucky for a "DewSweeper Escape" retreat weekend. Guests include PGA Tour caddy legend Coop (Donald Cooper), Bluebell Country Club director of instruction Conner Luke, Tour Coach podcast regular David Perkins (fresh off a medical and getting back to competing on the Korn Ferry Tour), and golf writer Matt Rudy.

The conversation covers the unglamorous truth about tournament golf: boring golf is good golf. They break down why managing a bad round—turning a potential 78 into a 69 or 70—separates the best from everyone else, why missing the green with a wedge or making a triple bogey is the real killer, and how elite players like Scotty Scheffler obsess over the smallest details (like a half-inch grip adjustment) while also staying coachable and open to refinement.

Coop shares caddy wisdom about decision-making under pressure and the "chess game" mentality. They dig into how coaches now have to be "concierges" filtering the firehose of Instagram tips and golf content, and discuss the difference between a rigid system and a belief structure. They also riff on Gwen Stefani, Rod Stewart vs. Madonna, and what separates a plus-3 handicap from a Korn Ferry Tour player.
