Jeff Howe and CJ Vogel go to the film for a good, bad and ugly evaluation of Texas’ running game against Oklahoma. Despite entering the week ranked 117th nationally at 3.66 yards per carry, the Longhorns produced 132 yards and averaged 4.4 yards on 30 non-sack attempts against one of the country’s best defenses. The guys explain why the pistol, split zone and a perfectly executed counter created some of Texas’ most encouraging runs.
The breakdown also exposes the failed crack toss, a critical run into an eight-man box that should have been checked and an ugly third-and-one loss in which Oklahoma overwhelmed the right side of the offensive line. With Derrek Cooper providing Texas’ best downhill running, why did he receive only two second-half carries? Steve Sarkisian must identify what worked, commit to it and establish a more reliable rushing identity against Florida.
