From the Field: Colin Simmons Makes HISTORY With 5 Sacks as Texas ESCAPES Tennessee

Jeff Howe and CJ Vogel react from Neyland Stadium after No. 1 Texas survived Tennessee, 20-17, on the final play. Colin Simmons delivered one of the greatest defensive performances in program history, tying the school record with five sacks as the Longhorns recorded 10 sacks and held the nation’s most explosive rushing attack to just 70 official yards.

Texas escaped despite three quarters of offensive inconsistency, costly penalties and multiple special-teams mistakes. Arch Manning and the offense produced impressive touchdown drives to open and close the game, but struggled to establish an identity in between. The Longhorns enter the bye week undefeated with a championship-caliber defense—and plenty to fix before facing Oklahoma.
