German Week is being celebrated in Darwin for the first time this year. According to the 2021 census, around 4.2 percent of the city population has German ancestry— the organizers hope that the local German community will become more rooted in the long term and at the same time create an open connection to the larger community. Before the start of the event, Lidia Cortina spoke with Wencke Lorenzen from the German Association Darwin about the program and life in tropical northern Australia. - Auch in Darwin wird dieses Jahr erstmals die German Week gefeiert. Rund 4,2 Prozent der Stadtbevölkerung haben laut Zensus 2021 deutsche Wurzeln – die Veranstalter erhoffen sich die deutsche Community vor Ort langfristig stärker verwurzeln und zugleich eine offene Verbindung zur größeren Gemeinschaft zu schaffen.
