'Furious' (Hulu) Episodes 1–3 Breakdown: Medusa, Trauma, and a Growing Conspiracy

Victor introduces the podcast’s new weekly coverage and, with Sona, breaks down episode 1 of Hulu’s Furious (Liz Meriwether), starring Emmy Rossum as FBI agent Alice Black and Lola Petticrew as Catherine (“Cat”). They discuss the show’s dark tone punctuated by comedy, New York setting, a cat-and-mouse structure, and the “Gorgon/Medusa” framework tied to violence and trauma, plus Alice’s workplace dynamics and history of abuse. Victor then gives his own spoilers-filled reactions to episodes 2 and 3, emphasizing title symbolism (Emily Dickinson’s “My Life Had Stood a Loaded Gun,” “Memory Distortion”), hair and agency parallels to Medusa, Catherine’s escalating killings and methods, an emerging Epstein-like network implicating powerful men, and Alice’s strained ties to her abusive ex and her platonic bond with Danny as the investigation becomes a joint FBI/NYPD task force.
