How DIFFERENT Would the 2026 Mets Be with Pete Alonso?! | Was Losing Him Stearns' Biggest Mistake?

Pete Alonso’s dramatic return to Citi Field as a Baltimore Oriole raises the question: how different would the New York Mets’ season look if they’d kept their franchise slugger?

Ryan Finkelstein breaks down Alonso’s stellar season—highlighting his 35 home runs, improved defense, and 100 RBIs—and contrasts it with the Mets’ ongoing struggles at first base, featuring underwhelming contributions from Mark Vientos and Jorge Polanco.

Key discussion points include David Stearns’ controversial decision to let Alonso walk, the financial ripple effects of that move, and whether declining to secure Alonso was the Mets’ biggest front office blunder.

The episode previews the emotionally charged Mets vs. Orioles series, spotlights the milestone chase between Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso (both sitting at 299 career home runs), and explores looming roster decisions that could define the franchise’s future.

Can the Mets chart a winning path without their former power bat?
