BONUS: BYU to Texas Tech, EVERYTHING You're Missing In Big 12 Football

The BYU Cougars have carved out a dominant start to the 2026 college football season, racing to a 3-0 record and establishing themselves as one of the most physically imposing, complete teams in the Big 12.

Under Kalani Sitake, this roster embodies the exact brand of tough, developmental football that gives traditionalists chills and leaves metrics models grinning. Offensively, the Cougars have played with ruthless efficiency, putting up an impressive 44.0 points per game while suffocating opponents to just 15.7 points defensively. That explosion is anchored by a punishing ground game that churns out over 262 rushing yards per contest, wearing opponents down at the line of scrimmage before breaking games wide open.

Whether it was opening the year with a statement blowout over Utah Tech, handling business against Arizona, or going on the road to comfortably dispatch Colorado State, BYU has controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Advanced metrics love this team because they don't rely on flashy gimmicks; they win through exceptional roster maturity, disciplined execution, and old-school trench warfare.

Despite putting together a resume that screams elite contender, the Cougars continue to fight against the institutional inertia of human voters and coastal media bias that routinely undervalues programs outside of legacy zip codes. Yet, as long as Kalani Sitake's squad keeps imposing its will and executing at this level, the numbers and the N-I-L era realities will speak for themselves. BYU isn't just a tough out—they are a legitimate blueprint for how to build a modern powerhouse in the trenches.
