The Hangover Hit Ole Miss, Then Florida | Now It's Vanderbilt's Problem | Golding's Changes?

Everyone is arguing about the poll: Ole Miss No. 9, the Florida team that beat them No. 16. That's the wrong fight. The AP Top 25 is not part of how the Playoff picks its field, and the real pattern is the seven-day hangover that hit Ole Miss after LSU, hit Florida after Ole Miss and now sits on Vanderbilt's sideline.

Three days to Ole Miss at Vanderbilt. Saturday, 2:30 PM CT / 3:30 PM ET, Nashville.

Steven Willis shows why the cycle that cost Ole Miss in Gainesville now works in its favor, what Pete Golding said about right tackle, and why the second unranked opponent of Golding's career sets up the next eight weeks.

📌 THREE THINGS

1. Same cycle, different jersey. Ole Miss beat LSU with GameDay in the Grove, jumped to No. 4 and lost 52-28 at Florida seven days later. Florida beat No. 4 Ole Miss and lost 45-17 at Missouri seven days later. Ole Miss is coming off the open date; Vanderbilt is coming home from a 38-14 loss at No. 2 Georgia in which it was outgained 256-59 after halftime.

2. Golding on right tackle: "Getting Tommy back healthier ... having Connor getting meaningful snaps." That's Tommy Kinsler IV and Connor Howes (No. 65), and "at the tackle position, we got multiple guys that could play winning football." The run game only has to be good enough to let Trinidad Chambliss be Trinidad Chambliss.

3. Golding is the first FBS head coach ever to beat four AP-ranked teams in his first six games. He has faced exactly one unranked opponent, Charlotte (41-9). Vanderbilt is the second, and after Nashville come four ranked teams in seven weeks: No. 14 Missouri, No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia and No. 17 Mississippi State.
