The Powder Blue Is Why Adidas Paid Ole Miss $20 Million | Ole Miss vs Vanderbilt Week

Everyone is asking what Adidas will do to the Ole Miss uniforms. That's the wrong question. Ask why Adidas paid a reported $20 million-plus a year in the first place. Steven Willis's answer: the powder blue. It has been the hottest color in college football for years, almost nobody else has it, and without it, he says, Ole Miss isn't commanding this deal.

Two days to Ole Miss at Vanderbilt. Saturday, 2:30 PM CT / 3:30 PM ET, ESPN.

Steven Willis and Tom Vanderford go through the Adidas deal, the uniform Ole Miss should build with the control it kept, whether Tropical Storm Isaias decides Saturday in Nashville, and why every Vanderbilt game makes Ole Miss fans nervous.

📌 THREE THINGS

1. The powder blue is why Adidas paid. "Without the powder blue jerseys… Ole Miss is not commanding $20 million on this deal," Steven says: Adidas is trying to sell apparel, and that color has been the hottest in college football for years. Tom Vanderford, who used to knock Adidas: "$140+ million will change a person's mind."

2. Keep it Ole Miss. With control of the look, Steven wants the navy helmet over white with red numbers and stripes, and the old tree logo back on the classic navy, red and white sets. The stripes-on-the-pants debate is coming, the way it hits Tennessee every few years.

3. Wind, not rain. Steven expects rain in Nashville but doesn't think the storm decides the game: the forecast gusts have already dropped from 40-45 mph to 30-35, and he thinks they settle at 20-25. Tom expects "a different defense out there Saturday" and picks Ole Miss 38-17. Steven's pick is 38-24.
