Bills Preseason Takeaways With Maniac (Live From Mafia Babes Meetup)

Patrick Moran is joined by Zack “Maniac” Shelton of Trainwreck Sports for a lively edition of Talking Buffalo, recorded live from the Mafia Babes meetup at the Buffalo Airport Hotel.

Patrick and Zack react to the Buffalo Bills’ preseason opener, including the impressive performance of Deone Walker and the strong showing from Buffalo’s starting offense and defense. They discuss the benefits and risks of playing Josh Allen and the starters during the preseason, along with the team’s biggest remaining concerns in the secondary.

The conversation also covers Buffalo’s new stadium, roster competitions, rising and falling player stocks, running back depth and what the Bills should prioritize during their upcoming preseason matchup with Cleveland.

Key Takeaways

• Deone Walker continues to look like a potential star and could help elevate Buffalo’s defense alongside Ed Oliver.
• The starting offense delivered 10 points on two possessions, while Jim Leonhard’s defense controlled Carolina’s offense.
• Cornerback depth and the health of the safety group remain significant concerns heading toward the regular season.
• Landon Jackson and Dwayne Carter have strengthened their cases for meaningful roles in the defensive-line rotation.
• Geno Stone, Josh Palmer and rookie Jude Bowry are among the players facing increased scrutiny after the preseason opener.
• Ty Johnson’s versatility, pass protection and reliability make him difficult to replace despite strong performances from Frank Gore Jr. and Ian Wheeler.

• Keon Coleman’s development and injury status
• Damar Hamlin’s improved summer
