Bills Cuts Show How Little Camp/Preseason Often Mean — Talking Buffalo

Patrick Moran is joined by Steve Bermel to break down the Buffalo Bills’ initial 53-man roster and several surprising decisions made by Brandon Beane and the organization.

Patrick questions how much training camp and preseason performances truly matter after impressive players such as Kani Walker and Keonta Jenkins failed to make the roster. The conversation examines which players earned their spots, which cuts were most surprising and why Buffalo may not be finished reshaping the team.

They also discuss the Bills keeping four tight ends without a fullback, Ty Johnson’s value to Josh Allen, the decision to retain Dwayne Carter and the trade involving Sedrick Van Pran-Granger. On defense, Patrick and Steve debate Buffalo’s lack of proven cornerback depth, its crowded collection of edge rushers and what fans should expect from Jim Leonhard’s new aggressive defensive scheme.

The episode closes with Buffalo Sabres talk, including Connor Hellebuyck’s uncertain future in Winnipeg and whether Buffalo remains a realistic trade destination for the franchise goaltender.

Key Takeaways

Strong training camp and preseason performances did not guarantee roster spots for Kani Walker or Keyontae Jenkins.
Buffalo’s decision to carry four tight ends and no traditional fullback could reveal how the offense plans to use its personnel.
Josh Allen and the Bills offense remain dependable, but the defense is the team’s biggest uncertainty.
Buffalo needs more consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks and better execution in critical third-down situations.
A Connor Hellebuyck trade could dramatically raise the Sabres’ ceiling, although Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s contract situation complicates a potential deal.
