Bills vs Chargers Preview, Keys & Bold Predictions

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran previews the Buffalo Bills’ Week 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, including the biggest keys to a Buffalo victory, five bold predictions and a final score prediction.

Before getting into the game, Patrick explains why there was no episode of Talking Buffalo on Thursday. He details an unfortunate recording mishap that resulted in his entire interview with WGR’s Brad Riter being lost, what went wrong with his new mobile podcast setup, and the lesson he learned from the experience.

From there, it’s all Bills-Chargers. Buffalo has started the season strong behind Josh Allen and an explosive offense, while the Chargers enter the matchup struggling on both sides of the ball. Patrick discusses Buffalo’s early-down offensive success, the importance of putting pressure on Justin Herbert and why the Bills need to turn Los Angeles’ early desperation into frustration.

There’s also discussion about Buffalo’s struggling secondary, the tremendous start from Deone Walker and Greg Rousseau, the Bills injury situation and the potential matchup problems presented by Chargers receiver Ladd McConkey.

Patrick closes with five bold Bills predictions, including calls involving Jackson Hawes, Ty Johnson, Dee Alford, Tyler Bass and Buffalo’s rookie class, before giving his final Bills-Chargers score prediction.

Key Takeaways

• Buffalo’s offense is rolling: Josh Allen and the Bills offense have been among the NFL’s most productive units through the opening two weeks.
• Pressure Justin Herbert: Buffalo’s pass rush has an opportunity to take advantage of a Chargers offensive line that has struggled to protect Herbert.
• Secondary remains a concern: Buffalo’s defensive backs have had a shaky start, making Ladd McConkey one of the most important Chargers players to contain.
• Deone Walker continues to impress: Patrick explains why Walker’s first two games have been especially impressive on film.
• Don’t let Los Angeles hang around: With the Chargers entering the game desperate for a win, Buffalo has an opportunity to take control early and potentially demoralize its opponent.

Five Bold Predictions

• Jackson Hawes records multiple catches and scores a touchdown.
• Ty Johnson makes his season debut and rushes for at least 40 yards.
• Dee Alford bounces back and intercepts Justin Herbert.
• Tyler Bass misses a field goal from inside 45 yards.
• A Bills rookie delivers his first truly meaningful impact performance of the season.

Final Score Prediction

Buffalo Bills 31, Los Angeles Chargers 17

Patrick expects the Chargers defense to create some problems early, but ultimately sees Buffalo’s offense finding its rhythm and the Bills defense making life increasingly difficult for Justin Herbert as the game progresses.
