PRESSURE: Oklahoma’s John Mateer MUST IMPROVE for Red River Shootout | Texas poses problems?

Oklahoma Sooners face mounting pressure as quarterback John Mateer struggles to find his rhythm ahead of the Red River Rivalry versus the dominant Texas Longhorns. Can Mateer overcome mental hurdles and inconsistent offensive line play to ignite the Sooners’ attack, or will Texas’ NFL-caliber front shut down hopes of an upset? Brian Smith and John Williams break down critical stats, highlight concerns over fumbles, sacks, and low rushing output, and question if Venables’ coaching staff can salvage the season.

Key topics include the Sooners’ inability to generate explosive plays, the mismatch against Texas’ elite run defense, and the uncertain futures of offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and the staff. The hosts debate Oklahoma’s offensive identity, the pressure of tradition, and whether a coaching shakeup is inevitable if results don’t improve. Get insider perspectives on OU’s path forward and what it will take for the Sooners to stay competitive in one of college football’s most heated rivalries.
